AMELIA O’ROURKE

Amelia has 20 years of indirect tax advisory experience and advises major corporate clients on a wide variety of indirect tax issues. She is currently named as one of Australia’s leading indirect tax advisors and one of Australia’s leading women in tax by the International Tax Review. Amelia is also an external member of the ATO’s Public Advice and Guidance Panel where she provides independent expert advice on the technical content of various Public Rulings and other public ATO guidance.

Amelia began her career at the ATO, where she was a member of the original team that designed and drafted Australia’s GST law. She also performed the role of Assistant Commissioner responsible for liaison between the ATO, the Department of the Treasury and the Parliament, and has worked in the Assistant Treasurer’s office and the Indirect Tax policy group in Treasury.

After leaving the public service, Amelia developed deep expertise in financial services, having worked in in-house indirect tax advisory roles at Westpac and Macquarie Group for five years.
